Go Canada!

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

Nominated for an Oscar this year in the Best Foreign Film (Canada) category, “Incendies” directed by Denis Villeneuve tells the story of twins, Jeanne and Simon, who journey to the Middle East to carry out their mother’s last wishes. Through this, they unravel their mother’s past, and in turn, discover their own roots in a history challenged by war and hatred but ultimately endured through love and acceptance.

Go see it. It’s great.

I’m in love with this little film. It’s what my dreams would be made out of. Watch it here. Made by some talented people in Barcelona. Oh Barcelona! Another place of of my dreams. ~ Lurgs

Mary & Max

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

I just finished watching a great film “Mary & Max”. A beautiful correspondence between two unlikely people. As a kid, I always wanted a pen pal and the thrill of getting things in the mail. Now I’m jaded and wary of crazy strangers, but it’s still nice to get things in the mail, especially when everyone relies on email these days. So go send a friend a letter, or even better, a package! There’s nothing like getting a delightful surprise in the mail that you can hold.

The film has delightful details and interesting advice. Perhaps I should rub onions in my arm pits to deter unwanted suitors.

It’s available on itunes and worth checking out! It deals with some more serious themes, so not for young children.
